One of the most intriguing titles that we’re looking forward to is Hogwarts Legacy, the next entry in the Harry Potter video game franchise. Announced during the PlayStation 5 price reveal event, the game was touted as an open-world action RPG that takes place in the Harry Potter universe, specifically at Hogwarts Castle, the school where they teach magic. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll be waiting a bit longer to get our hands on it. Avalanche Software has announced via Twitter that the game has been delayed until 2022, skipping this year altogether.

The developer made the message clear and concise, giving no specific reasoning for the delay other than the fact that they want to give the process more time. “Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us so we are giving the game the time it needs.” Obviously, a lot of fans, especially die-hard Harry Potter fans, are a little upset by this announcement. However, as we all know, the development of any video game is a delicate process, and the more time a studio has to finish the project, the better.
Hogwarts Legacy is being developed by the aforementioned Avalanche Software while being published under the Portkey Games label, which is Warner Bros. Interactive division for the Harry Potter gaming franchise. The game will take place in the 1800s, well before any of the major events that take place during the books/movies, and also before the Fantastic Beats spin-off series. While the extra year-long wait is a bit of a bummer, we’re optimistic that it will be worth it, and still can’t wait to play this one.
Hogwarts Legacy will launch sometime in 2022 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/Series S, and PC.
