Earlier today, the latest Night City Wire, a presentation revolving around the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 revealed more information about the world that the game takes place in. The first episode showcased a brand new look at gameplay. The second episode focused on some of the RPG mechanics of the game including how the game starts and what weapons you’ll be able to choose from. The third episode was all about Night City itself, the gangs that run the streets, and CD Projekt Red finally revealed the minimum and recommended system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077.
As the gameplay trailer shows, Night City can be everyone’s dream and everyone’s nightmare. Crime runs rampant throughout Night City, double the rate than the new United States. The homeless population has increased by over 300%. For more information about Night City and its history, visit the official website.
Talking about what went into designing Night City, Senior Level Design Miles Toast said, “In a way, Night City is the star of Cyberpunk. It is one of its main characters. We wanted to make a that is very, very believable, right, I mean the word immersion gets thrown around a lot, but really, we wanted you to be able to dive into it and feel like this is a real place.”
Miles also brushed on making Night City a place where players can get lost in. “Secondly, we also wanted to provide enough variety between districts so that exploring Night City would always be fun. There’s no point in making a city that’s all sameish and doesn’t really matter where you go because once you’ve been through one district, you feel like you’ve been through all of them.
Night City is broken up into six districts. Each one has its own characteristics from the architecture to the people that live there. Each district also has its own sub-districts that are further characterized by the grand theme of the larger district. Up until now, we have seen several of the different gangs that players will come across during their time in Night City. Like the different districts, the gangs are also different from one another.
The Malestrom was introduced in the first gameplay demo. They like to modify their bodies to be more machine than man. The Voodoo Boys are most known as being heavily focused and involved in netrunning or hacking. The Animals are similar to the Malestrom but they modify their bodies to be more suited for close-quarters combat. The Valentinos are very religious. The 6th Street gang is very patriotic and goes up against anything that isn’t. Tiger Claws are another gang, very similar to the Chinese Triad or the Yakuza. Moxes are a crew of sex workers who decided to take things into their own hands. Wraths and the Aldecaldos are gangs based out in the Badlands, the area located outside of Night City. The minimum and recommended system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 are as follows:
