Announced in April earlier this year, the open-world survival RPG Windbound received a new gameplay trailer today. The trailer shows off the large world as the main character sails through a deep ocean, an environment familiar to that of Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Windwaker titles. The game follows the protagonist Kara, in search of her lost tribe as she adventures and sails through the Forbidden Islands on a custom-made boat that players will be able to create by scavenging and playing the game.
Deep Silver’s website for the game offers a description of the story, “Kara, driven to find the path that leads her back to her tribe, pushes on in her extraordinary odyssey into the unknown. The islands are alive with magic and enchantment telling the tales of their origin and revealing the role Kara unknowingly plays in it as each artifact that she unearths unlocks a new clue to her past.” Players will find themselves shipwrecked on an unknown island, wherein they will be required to hunt, scavenge, loot, and explore in order to create a sea vessel that will allow Kara to begin her journey.
In a fashion, the game is very reminiscent of Nintendo’s Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Players will be able to hunt, cook, glide, climb and sail throughout their adventure, combining classic elements of the Wind Waker with the open-world charm of Breath of the Wild. The gameplay trailer also shows off a number of the locations that Kara will be adventuring through, including colorful forests and the open sea. The game is set to release on August 28th of this year and will be available for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch consoles. The game is available for pre-order right now on the game’s official website, and pre-orders will give players a free Ancestral knife, clothing set, and Oar for their boats.
