A new report by Cinelinx states that a Knights of the Old Republic remake is back in development at EA. Back in 2015, there were reports that a remake of the game was in development but it was supposedly put on hold in 2016. Now, two sources say that it is back in development. While rumors and speculation should be taken with a grain of salt until they are official, one of the sources confirmed the news of Ewan McGregor returning to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi before that became official.
One of the sources says that what’s in development is s remake of Knights of the Old Republic. The other source says that “they felt it wasn’t so much a remake, but a sequel of sorts”.
In fact, the report says that the new Knights of the Old Republic game will be integrating elements from the previous games so that the Knights of the Old Republic story becomes official canon as the original two games were part of everything that is not considered official canon by Disney.
In other words, the game is “not necessarily a remake, so much as a re-imaging” which, as far as games go, been a very successful thing. Last year, Resident Evil 2 received critical acclaim and was one of the best games last year even though it’s a remake because it did reimagine everything that the original game was doing.
Another example of a reimagined game being successful is God of War. Even though it’s a sequel, the way that the game was designed is completely different from the God of War titles that came before it.
The report also says that “EA has a BUNCH of Star Wars projects in various stages of work at this point.” This ranges from sequels to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to a Project Luminous tie-in to something on the Nintendo Switch. As far as when and if we hear anything about these projects will happen, only time will tell.
