The Lead R&D Graphics Engineer for Crytek, Tiago Sousa, took to twitter to announce his switch over to id Software. According to his LinkedIn account, Sousa is now the Lead Rendering Programmer for id, and, according to the previous tweet, will be working on the new Doom game, which was previewed for all attendees of the Dallas, TX QuakeCon.
Sousa has already changed his twitter handle to @idSoftwareTiago. According to his LinkedIn, he leaves behind 10 years history with Crytek, where he has worked on the series of “Far Cry” and “Crysis,” as well as games Ryse: Son of Rome and Warface.
According to an article on Kotaku, there is trouble on the homefront for Crytek. The article said Sousa is not the only employee who has looked elsewhere for employment (as does this one). The company may be facing financial trouble as well as a brittle infrastructure. Crytek denies the allegations.
Whatever the case may be, fans of Doom can look forward to the Crytek engineer’s work to be put into the newest installment; the same that had a hand in Crysis 1, a notorious graphical milestone in the gaming industry.
