Indiecade 2019 is officially over and the convention previewed many unique independent games currently in development. One game that gamers should look out for is Voronoi Voyager. Voronoi Voyager is the brain-child of Reese Eifler and is a Top-Down game played on a grid.

The game is a rather interesting mixtures of both Pac-Man and Kirby in which the player directs a triangle across a procedurally generated voronoi diagram while attempting to corral various enemies. The player can absorb enemies that they have corralled into a spot and then gain their powers in a manner similar to Kirby. The player will be able to use numerous abilities and take on a number of different voronoi diagrams adding a variety of fun ways to play as well as a diverse array of challenges. The game is still in development at the moment with the developer stating, “Half of the player abilites are not yet implemented and the next worlds are not yet in place.”

During my playthrough of the game, I was unable to finish a single stage. The voronoi diagram provided a lot of challenge for me as I had to navigate my way through a grid, attempt to corral enemies, and keep track of the various enemies at the same time. It was like playing an even harder version of Pac-Man. Every time the player is touched by an enemy, they randomly respawn in a different location on the diagram. The game is still in development and it is currently unknown when Voronoi Voyager will be released or on what consoles. Reese Eifler was also working on a top-down New York City yellow cab company simulator called Yellow City, however, he had to step away from it because it was, “too much for just me.” He has stated that he will one day most likely resume work on it again, however both Voronoi Voyager and Yellow City are still incomplete at the moment.
