Recently, the Taiwanese Games Rating Board made a brand new filing for the Puzzle Platformer Super Monkey Ball. It is unclear at the moment if this will be a new game or a remake, however, what we do know is that this revival is long overdue. The ratings have a Japanese and Chinese title and the translation implies that the games will have something to do with food. The translations are as follows, “Now Taste Good! Super Monkey Ball and The Food is Great! Super Monkey Ball”. No detailed information about the game is currently available, but we know that the game will be available for the Nintendo Switch, the Playstation 4, and PC.
Super Monkey Ball was a Puzzle Platformer series that allowed players to roll around in a giant ball avoiding pitfalls and navigating through labryinthine puzzles as AiAi, and a cast of other characters. In each stage, the player had to guide their character to the goal post within the allotted time and not fall into any of the traps. The player did this not by guiding the character, but by tilting the world with their controller, in a manner that is similar to Marble Madness. Super Monkey Ball was initially released as an arcade game in 2001 under the name Monkey Ball and it eventually came to the console in that same year. The game was initially released by SEGA and had several games released from 2001-2014. But the series hasn’t had a release for at least 5 years.
Hopefully, with this new game we can see some delicious looking and challenging puzzles that will give the player an enjoyable and infuriating experience as they try to make their way through the various mazes that block their path. It is currently unknown what challenges await the player or if their are any new features that they can expect, but one can hope that the game will be a fun, challenging, and infuriating experience.
