Focus Home Interactive recently showed off some new gameplay of their upcoming sequel The Surge 2. Within the developer walkthrough the game’s challenging combat, strategic maneuvering, new mechanics, as well as the gruesome limb dismemberment were shown off. However an interesting new feature that has previously been used in similar game franchises such as Dark Souls and Bloodbourne was also revealed to be coming to the game when it releases this fall.
Adam Hetenyi, head of design for the Deck13, the studio responsible for The Surge 2 announced that players will be able to leave behind messages for other players to find who happen to be playing online. “Here you can see our new online feature, one of our several new online features. Players can craft these graffiti messages and place them in the world using a spray can attached to their drone. You can leave messages for other players: friendly things like, ‘There’s loot over here,’ or ‘Oh no, a dangerous sniper.'”
Although this bit of information was worth noting it was the only announcement that was made in regards as to the game’s online features. The only other thing confirmed is that there is currently no plans for co-op or multiplayer gameplay for The Surge 2 at this time. Other new features were outline such as a new directional parry mechanic that is now implemented within the intense battles, and more intelligent AI behavior.
It was also revealed that the game will be more tactical than its predecessor when it comes to the limb dismemberment factor. The game’s story structure has also been changed to a more open ended one that allows players to choose which way they want to engage in combat or make their way through obstacles. The Surge 2 is slated to release September 24 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
