Guacamelee released to critical acclaim last year on the PlayStation 3, Vita, and on PC. Come July, it will be adding the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4, and Wii U to its list of conquered consoles with an all-new extended edition.
Guacamelee managed to make waves in the indie game scene last year with its blend of solidly executed beat-em-up mechanics and quirky, original graphical style. Now developer Drinkbox Studios is bringing their luchador-themed bundle of joy to a whole new family of consoles with a massive cross-platform release.
Far from being a direct port, the new version of the game — dubbed Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition — sets to improve upon the original with the inclusion of all of the original game’s DLC as well as a wealth of new features.
Quoting from the game’s own web site:
Hey All – just wanted to say how excited we are to announce Guacamelee! Super Turbo Champion Edition for XBox1, PS4, X360 and WiiU. Whatttt, did that just happen? Uh-huh. Ya, get ready, because we’re adding a ton of new content that includes expanded main storyline, new powers, new enemies, new bosses from the original. Check out the spiffy trailer.
The trailer is, indeed, quite spiffy.
Drinkbox Games had more to say about the release on their main site’s blog, including a list of features planned for Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition.
Just to remind you, here’s a list of some new features for Guac STCE:
- more words to the title
- an extra save slot
- new costumes
- creepy hanging dolls
- two extra levels
- some new tunes
- another save slot
- a new dimension-switching ability called ‘Shadow Swap’
- pollo egg bombs
- an NPC with an impossibly large head
- a new power called INTENSO
We’re super excited to be bringing Guac to the next generation of platforms.
The developers are going for a slightly staggered release on the game’s new platforms, with the PS4 version becoming available on July 1st, followed by Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U versions all premiering the next day. All four versions will be available on their consoles’ respective digital marketplaces for $14.99.
Guacamelee’s original release was filled with humor and action, and it looks like the Super Turbo Championship Edition is likely to live up to its tongue in cheek title additions by adding plenty of fun new features to an already endearingly different game.
