Looks like the recently released Tetris 99 is going to be getting a lot of new content soon. According to recent datamines, three new modes are going to be added to the game. Considering there is only one mode available at the moment, new game modes would certainly spice up the game for many. The game only supports online play right now but the addition of “COM Battle” will likely allow players to play offline against bots. It’s also interesting to note that the datamines are supported by the stats page of the game.
New gamemodes will be added to Tetris 99 in an update.
– "Team Battle": Two giant teams clash. Be on the winning side!"
– "COM Battle": "Battle against 98 bots. Defeat the machines!" (supports both 99 Battle and Team Battle)
– "Marathon": score attack -> 200 lines or endless— OatmealDome (@OatmealDome) February 15, 2019
For those who aren’t are in the loop, Tetris 99 is essentially a multiplayer battle royale version of Tetris exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. It was announced during the latest Nintendo Direct and is free to those who are subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online. Players play Tetris against 98 other players to see who will be the last player standing. The “Marathon” mode described in the datamine will also support in-game achievements. Currently there are some features that have been announced such as in-game events that were mentioned during the Nintendo Direct but there is no information on them as of writing. It’ll be interesting to see what those events will be like and what the rewards that Nintendo described for said events will be like.
The titles being released on the Nintendo Switch as of late sure seem to be taking a new approach to classic games. It seems like the recently announced remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening falls under the same category. The game seems incredibly ambitious, remaking the original in a completely new art style.
