Serious Sam seems to be coming back. With the fourth installment in the main series announced earlier this year, fans have a lot to be excited about in the near future. Luckily for those who aren’t familiar with the series or want a refresher, Serious Sam Collection is being brought to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Thanks to the Entertainment Software Ratings Board, we now know that the set of games is being brought to the latest console generation. For those who are interested, it was rated M, which is the same as every other installment in the series except for Serious Sam on the PalmPilot.
For those completely out of the loop, the Serious Sam games are first-person shooters focused on fast gameplay, large environments, and loads of enemies. It played a part in the popularization of the FPS genre along with Duke Nukem 3D and others. While Serious Sam may not have the same amount of popularity as Doom and other influential FPS games, it was successful in the risks that it took with its unique mechanics. This success can be seen by the many installments in the franchise and the fact that the series is still having games ported to modern consoles, even when it has been nearly a decade since the original release of all of the games included in the collection.
The Serious Sam Collection includes Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter, Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, Serious Sam 3: BFE, and Serious Sam: Double D XXL. It was originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, making this port an obvious decision if Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass will have a release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. While there are images and even footage of the latest game in the series, it is very obviously still early in development. It was only very recently announced and is slated to release in 2019, so one can expect more updates on it relatively soon.
