Over the past couple of weeks, Rockstar Games has detailed new information about Red Dead Redemption 2. We learned a bit more about the characters we’ll be meeting and interacting with and the many varied locations that will be a part of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s open world. Today, Rockstar Games has announced another component to Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online.
Today we’re excited to announce Red Dead Online, a new online connected experience set against the backdrop of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s enormous open world.
In their announcement, Rockstar said “Red Dead Online is an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways”
Like Red Dead Redemption‘s and Grand Theft Auto V‘s multiplayer components, Rockstar is “using the gameplay of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation,” and “Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will also feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players.”
Red Dead Online is set to launch November 2018 as a public beta initially. Access to Red Dead Online will be free so long as you have a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 for either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Rockstar has stated that more news about Red Dead Online will come soon.
Alongside the announcement, Rockstar Games’ Imran Sarwar, Director of Design at Rockstar North, and Josh Needleman, Senior Producer at Rockstar San Diego participated in a Q&A with IGN.
During the Q&A, Imran and Josh discussed things like what players can expect from Red Dead Online, why it’s not releasing on October 26, how it’ll differ from Grand Theft Auto Online, what they have learned from Grand Theft Auto Online, and their plans for Grand Theft Auto Online after Red Dead Online launches.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available October 26 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
