Developers Ice-Pick Lodge have dropped a new blog post and a ton of new information on their upcoming open world horror game Pathologic 2.
We’ve covered the game a few times, but for those unfamiliar, the basic premise is as follows: you are in a small town that has been ravaged by a mysterious plague. Your primary goal is survival, but beyond that how you choose to spend your time is largely up to you. Will you do what you can to save the town and its residence or will you kill and steal your way to your own survival? You get to decide. And you only have 12 days to do so.
The announcement contains information on the gameplay mechanics. First, the game will have a district system for your reputations. Areas of town where you failed to save people (or murdered them) will look unfavorably on your presence there. While other areas might just be indifferent to you.
There will also be a heavy focus on resource management. If you find something, how will you decide to use it? Will you use it on its own or save it to use it for crafting something else? Will you use your resources to keep yourself healthy or to help others? And what will the consequences to those choices be?
And finally, the team is hard at work on their NPC AI systems. They world building will rest on the town folk you encounter throughout the game, and the developers want them to be as smart and realistic as possible. Though combat isn’t their main focus, they’ve also worked on those interactions, giving AI the ability to give up and walk away from a fight if they choose to. And giving you the ability to mug them without bloodshed.
