Ever since its gameplay teaser wowed unsuspecting players at last year’s E3, the upcoming Spider-Man exclusive for PlayStation 4 has been hotly anticipated. Though it doesn’t have any direct relation to the sprawling Marvel Cinematic Universe (which is about to get a lot bigger with Infinity War later this month), many believe that this title could be a return to video game form for the webslinger, who has struggled to live up to classic like Spider-Man 2, way back in the sixth console generation. It also doesn’t hurt that development has been handled by Insomniac, who rose to fame with the original Spyro trilogy, Ratchet & Clank, and the Resistance franchise.
Nearly two years after it was first announced at E3 2016, we finally have a release date. Spider-Man drops exclusively for the PS4 on September 7, 2018.

The announcement comes from this week’s issue of Game Informer, which heavily features the game this week. Alongside the release date comes a host of new information (available to subscribers only), as well as a lengthy interview with Creative Director Brian Intihar and a look inside the Collector’s Edition of the game. The bulk of the additional content will be access to planned DLC for the game, known as “The City That Never Sleeps,” an ongoing program that “will bring new missions, villains, characters, and suits” to the game after release. The base Deluxe Edition will run at $79.99, all the way up to $149.99 for additional goodies including an art book, figurine, and plenty of in-game redeemables.
Superhero video games have had a checkered past, but recent successes like Batman’s Arkham series have shown that our favorite costumed crime fighters can still make for a proper AAA title. More details will certainly surface between now and its release, but we have one of the biggest concerns out of the way now: we know there are only 5 months to go until we get our hands on it.
