When a game makes over a billion dollars in just a few days, one would not be surprised to learn the company behind said game has plans for the future.
Despite the frustrations that have risen from the release of GTA Online, players are flocking to the game and continuing to play with fierce determination. Rockstar, while trying to juggle the massive success of their game and the problems with their online system, has released a statement regarding the future of the series.
Rockstar president, Leslie Benzies, stated that the company has about “45 years worth of ideas … We don’t know what GTA 6 will be, but we’ve got some ideas.” From the history of the company, some of these ideas will be pushed into other games and developed into full experiences. For example, the three-character system featured in GTA V was an idea originally planned for GTA: San Andreas.
In all practical explanations, the “45 years worth of ideas” would not all pertain to the furthering of the Grand Theft Auto series (one intrepid writer waits with bated breath at the idea of Red Dead Redemption 2, but beggars can’t be choosers).
Some of these ideas will very likely be pushed into downloadable content for GTA V, but for the time being, fans of the series will have to speculate as to the nature of GTA 6, including what city the game will be set in. Rio De Janeiro or London would be great, but maybe Grand Theft Auto is only an America-centric game. Just saying it’d be cool…Rockstar.
