Pig Eat Ball creators Mommy’s Best Games released a new announcement trailer today, filled with gameplay footage featuring strange looking monsters, wacky levels and a fun 8-bit soundtrack. The 2D artstyle gives the game a retro feel similar to other titles Mommy’s Best Games has released, including Weapon of Choice, Shoot 1 up, Explosionade, and Game Type which can be bought all together in a Steam bundle.
In Pig Eat Ball, players take on the role of Princess Bow as she tries to win a contest set up by her father King Cake. The winner of the contest will have the right to marry Princess Bow, but she wants to take that choice into her own hands. Even more interesting, it must remain secret that Princess Bow is participating in the contest so she has to “wear a disguise the whole time which changes your appearance and also alter your gameplay.” Each disguise will give Princess Bow one helpful ability and one drawback. Players will have to determine which disguise works best for them in each unique level.
To help Princess Bow win her father’s contest, players will have to “eat, fight, solve, and barf their way through hundreds of action-packed levels in the giant, story-filled world of Pig Eat Ball.” Similar to Pac-Man, Players must “eat all the balls in a level to win,” but sometimes Princess Bow eats a little too much; to ensure she doesn’t get stuck after eating, Princess Bow can barf to shrink her size. If eating or barfing isn’t the way to go, she can also spit out different items such as bowling balls to knock pins out of her way or bombs to clear obstacles and enemies as seen in the trailer. Enemies come in many shapes and sizes, with some being similar in size to Princess Bow while others are massive and take up large areas of the screen. Some unique enemies showcased in the trailer appear to be different colored ghosts, a giant spinning metal wheel, a giant tentacle monster wielding meat cleavers, and a large head that detaches into two pieces trying to crush Princess Bow.
The game has hundreds of levels, all with unique puzzles, enemies, and obstacles for Princess Bow to conquer. In terms of level types, players will be able to choose from “action Levels in which you must beat a challenge and win and unlock new areas,” or “overworlds which are for exploring at your own pace, secrets, and talking to funky NPCs.” Players can take on the challenges alone or with friends if they use 4-player party mode. Those who want to be even more creative can “build and share their own levels.”
Updates for Pig Eat Ball can be found on the official website, and the game will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam in 2018.
