During an interview with EuroGamer Fumito Ueda gave some intel on the next project that he is currently working on. Ueda, known for his work on Shadow of the Colossus and the more recent title The Last Guardian which is famous for being released seven years after its initial announcement, states that he wants the development cycle for his next project to go by much faster this time.
In the interview Ueda was asked whether or not the new project will resemble any of his previous titles he explained that he meant for the game to be very different from the others but there is a chance it will be similar to the other ones anyway. “The last three games we created I didn’t intend to be very similar to each other. When I start to create a game, always I think we will create something different. But the result was that in the three games there are some similarities.”
He also said that he is currently changing the way that he goes through the development process. In past projects he would initially start off by creating a short film that would set the tone for the overall project. For this next project however Ueda will first create a working prototype for the game. Through a translator he stated “I would like to finish a game as soon as quickly possible.” Ueda also admitted that The Last Guardian had such a long development cycle due to many problems that surfaced throughout.
