During an address at BitSummit in Japan producer for PlatinumGames Atsushi Inaba announced that they are working on a new “formless, shapeless IP.” DualShockers reported that he did not add any further details but did say that the project will be headed by a new director, however no name has been given at this time. Although an official announcement has not been made, during 2016’s BitSummit Inaba stated that PlatinumGames was thinking about making a new IP. This may be a sign that the studio has taken the first few steps in order to create an all new title although it seems to be very early in the development and their plans could change.
Also in 2016, PlatinumGames boss Tatsuya Minami said that the studio only wanted to work on franchises that they had created, however they seemed to have trouble doing so. “We used to have the idea that we wanted to be a studio that only made 100 percent original games,” he said. “However, it turns out that only doing that is considerably difficult, and so now we take on various work.
PlatinumGames was responsible for creating Bayonetta and Vanquish. They were working on the new title Scalebound which was announced at E3 2014 but the project was canceled in January of this year. The developer is now well known for their partnerships having worked with Nintendo, Konami, Activision/Nikelodeon, and Hasbro. Inaba also stated that he was unsure on if the studio was going to continue on with releasing one game each year.
