Sniper Elite 4 will be adding its first DLC content to the game since its February release, adding new multiplayer content as well as the first chapter of a brand new narrative mini-campaign. The content was announced by Tim Jones of Sniper Elite developer Rebellion Developments on the PlayStation Blog today.
First up in the DLC is the new mini-campaign, “Deathstorm”. Deathstorm will feature a brand new storyline, taking place after the events of the main Sniper Elite 4 campaign, and will be playable both in single-player and co-op. This particular update will only feature the first chapter of the Deathstorm campaign, with parts 2 and 3 to come later in future updates. The story of Deathstorm is teased with the following quote:
The Alsos Mission, an offshoot of the United States-led Manhattan Project famous for its research and development of nuclear weapons, needs Karl Fairburne to intercept a critical package the Nazis are bringing into the country…
In Part 1: Inception, Karl must infiltrate the Rocca sul Mare naval base in the chillier climes of northern Italy, targeted in a recent bombing run yet still under tremendous Nazi guard. Somewhere in this sprawling stronghold is the package codenamed “Deathstorm.”
Deathstorm Part 1 promises to bring more of Sniper Elite‘s grand-scale gameplay with a “massive environment” filled with enemy soldiers, climbable scaffoldings, and even German destroyers. Part 1: Inception will be available in the PlayStation store starting next week, and can be purchased either individually or as part of the Sniper Elite 4 Season Pass, which grants access to all the game’s paid add-ons.
Also included in next week’s update, and available through the Season Pass, is the Night Fighter Expansion Pack, which includes three new weapons, night-time camouflage rifle skins for eight weapons, and two new characters.
The new update will also be bringing free content, in the form of new additions to the game’s multiplayer. A brand new mode called Elimination will be added, which is a 6v6 deathmatch in which you aim to eliminate the entire enemy team one by one. There are no traditional respawns in elimination; when you’re dead, you stay dead until the round is over – or until your team scores a kill. If you have a dead teammate, eliminating one enemy will allow for their return to the battlefield, allowing for some potential 1v6 comeback craziness.
A new free map will also be coming to Sniper Elite 4 in the update, called Night Woods. Here’s a first screenshot of the map as a sneak peek:
