The fan-led #SaveMassEffect campaign has taken its message directly to Electronic Arts, with organizers arranging a mobile billboard demonstration around the publisher’s headquarters in Redwood City, California, ahead of this year’s N7 Day celebration. On November 6, the group We Are Mass Effect sent a truck displaying the campaign’s hashtag, QR code, and SaveMassEffect.com address around EA and EA Sports’ headquarters. The demonstration follows the group’s earlier digital billboard campaign in New York City’s Times Square, representing another effort to draw attention to the future of BioWare and its franchises following the studio’s closure and the cancellation of its planned Mass Effect project.
According to organizer Mer, who spoke to IGN, the campaign is about more than convincing EA to continue the franchise. It is also intended to recognize the developers affected by BioWare’s closure and demonstrate that the community continues to value the people responsible for its games. Organizers encouraged local fans to photograph the truck while specifically warning them not to enter EA property. The mobile billboard is part of a broader series of activities surrounding November 7, traditionally celebrated by Mass Effect fans as N7 Day. We Are Mass Effect has arranged another billboard appearance near BioWare’s former offices and is preparing a community video featuring fans, contributors, and original Commander Shepard voice actors Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer.
The group is also promoting an N7 Play Day, encouraging players to launch Mass Effect: Legendary Edition on Steam to demonstrate continued interest in the franchise. Another mobile billboard is planned to circulate around December’s The Game Awards ceremony, extending the campaign’s visibility beyond the anniversary celebrations. The campaign’s latest developments coincide with the announcement of MASSIVE EFFECT: THE BIOWARE STORY, an independent documentary scheduled to premiere in 2027. The film began production approximately two years ago, originally intending to document BioWare’s history and creative legacy before the studio’s eventual closure became part of its story.
Written and directed by Akash Sherman, the documentary is being produced by Shane Fennessey and Adam Scorgie, with Fennessey Films and Score G Productions serving as production companies. The film will feature BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk, and Augustine Yip, alongside developers and industry figures associated with the studio’s most recognizable games. The filmmakers are also inviting fans to contribute archival material, including fan art, cosplay, convention photographs, videos, and personal memorabilia, for possible inclusion in the finished documentary.
With the #SaveMassEffect campaign continuing to expand beyond online petitions, this year’s N7 Day has become an opportunity for fans to celebrate BioWare’s legacy while drawing attention to the people and games affected by its closure. Whether the campaign will influence EA’s decisions remains uncertain, but its organizers are making clear that the community has not abandoned the franchise.
