Modulink is a new action roguelite game announced today. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a catastrophe has affected humanities understanding of its own technology and relics of the old world are scattered throughout the environment. The main protagonist, that players embody, is a researcher who venture out with their hovering companion, Repo, that also acts as a digital journal. Their main goal is to recover what their world has forgotten.
There are modules that players can find and connect together into circuits to unlock abilities and attacks. Players will be able to move these modules and reshape their build as they progress through the story. Modules can help players by opening doors, repairing machines and solve puzzles.
In order to discover what each Module can do, players must observe and test them out to find out how they can be utilized. All their findings can be recorded on Repo, which is useful because any information stored on their companion is carried into their next run.
Each route is different, including various environments such as combat arenas, traversal challenges, hidden rooms, and circuit puzzles. However, there are hostile machines that players will have to study and use the modules to build a way to defeat them. However, the world is not completely hostile.
There are communities that players can encounter, but these communities have learned how to survive apart from one another. Players can restore the systems these communities rely on, help them rebuild their trust, and reconnect them with other settlements.
Brainglyph, the developers of Modulink, posted a reveal trailer that highlights the type of environmental puzzles players can expect. Some help create bridges to continue forward, requiring some experimenting with the modules and circuit connections. It is also the developer’s first game and those interested can join the Playtest by requesting access via Steam.
