Initially, when it was first revealed, Ember Lab’s sequel to Kena: Bridge of Spirits was announced to launch in 2026, but that is no longer the case. Ember Lab has announced that Kena: Scars of Kosmora is now set to release sometime in 2027.

“Since our announcement trailer in February, we’ve been heads down bringing Kena: Scars of Kosmora to the finish line,” COO Josh Grier and Game Writer Thomas Varga said. “It’s been exciting to see all the anticipation and passion from fans. We can’t wait to share a new installment of Kena’s story with you!
At the same time, we want to deliver a top-notch game that exceeds the quality we achieved with our 2021 debut, Bridge of Spirits, and at a much bigger scale. To do that we need just a bit more time. Pushing our release into 2027 gives us the ability to really polish the expanded game experience we want to deliver. In the meantime, we wanted to share more about the world you’ll get to explore soon!
Kena Scars of Kosmora picks up after the events of Bridge of Spirits. While Kena has made progress on her journey studying to be a Spirit Guide, she feels like she’s hit a wall. She’s helped spirits of the dead, but hasn’t really explored what helping the living is like. She has also been focusing on helping others with their pain but not focusing on her own. So, her childhood friend Orfrio belives the mysterious island of Kosmora will help. Kena sets out to meet him, hoping to discover more about her past and future as a Spirit Guide.
Josh and Thomas also share more details about Kosmora. The island has developed their own unique approach involving the four elements and Alchemystic Temples and is home to four interconnected cultures which once thrived across Kosmora, each with a guiding element that fueled its society – before a mysterious cataclysm destroyed one of them.
Since then, the spiritual symbolism of the elements has faded. They still play a part in each culture’s everyday lives but the longer the ancient wisdom remains buried, danger grows.
Kena’s mission will be to uncover how Kosmora’s past collides with characters in each region, requiring her to apply her experience and adapt to evolving situations and new personalities.
New to Scars of Kosmora is a new way to explore with the crystalline caine companion. The ancient spirit is tied directly into gameplay and the origin of the mysterious island. The spirit will help Kena explore, fight in combat, both mounted and on foot, and will help Kena solve Alchemystic puzzles. Together, the ancient spirit and Kena will set out to heal Kena’s scars, as well as the scars that cut right into the root of Kosmora.
