You fall in the ocean and end up as monster chow for a massive being, what happens then? Last Wail of the Sea King’s new trailer explores the possibilities of this phenomena by introducing a mini ecosystem with humans thriving inside of the being that ate you, instead of the usual Jonah situation.
With massive teeth, a tongue and first person pov, it hits that the player is inside another living thing. As the mc turns around, they see a collage looking npc holding an octopus, who acts as a sort of welcome crew to the unlucky playable character. The npc is introduced as the “Fisherman,” who gives a quest to “destroy the soggy demon from within!” Interestingly, the character is made with collage style motion graphics that add a pop of kitchy fun to the otherwise realistic-ish game animation. In a valve doorway, there are hints of hidden rooms and important looking info, there are also fights between other trapped humans, three eyed fish, and statue looking things. There’s a whole colony in the monster, with ramshackle huts, totems and even a fire, and one of the colony members ends up giving advice to the player as he passes through. Each of the humans share the same kitchy collage graphics, showcasing a variety of uniquely different looks. In an odd turn of events, there’s even an office inside the being, with piles of paperwork, a boss and an insectoid worker.
The player walks though a storage room, and ends up at some kind of dystopian “Commercial Zone” owned by the boss, and managed by that very worker, despite being inside a giant sea monster. The player explores more, talks to the Fisherman, and other colony members getting bits of information out of them, fights against what looks like a fish smoking a cigarette, before an important choice: deciding on one person’s life between two important characters. Last Wail on the Sea King, has a demo available and the rest of the game will drop sometime on Steam in 2027.
