An indie developer, M8 WORKSHOP, has released an official demo trailer for their current project, THE SUSPENSE. It is a psychological horror game, where players see an alternate future through Leo’s perspective. He is the main protagonist that has forgotten his past, but he regains fragments of his memories as the game progresses.
The story is set in a rusting facility, where the player is evaluated by an entity known as “the System.” At the end of a 90-day cycle, it reviews their performance and assigns them a new job. Those within the facility are expected to meet a certain quota and follow the rules. Anyone brave enough to break the rules, once or repeatedly, risk receiving less food or facing a crueler fate.
Others within the facility are trying to survive in an environment that increases their feelings of hopelessness. They each have their own stories, but can they be trusted? Especially those that have forgotten what it means to be human.
The Demo Trailer showcases the rusting facility with various rooms and passageways, making it seem nearly endless and soulless. The residents bear grim expressions with some staring ominously at the player through video feed. There are residents shown attacking one another, proving that not all can be trusts and players should remain on their guard.
This rusting facility is a dangerous place, but the video does highlight a door that can be a possible means of escape. It opens up to reveal a long rusting bridge, though it is unclear where it leads as the trailer cuts to its final scene. An unknown person calls out to the player, appearing to wake up the protagonist after being asleep or unconscious on the ground.
THE SUSPENSE demo is available for PC players via Steam and the developers plan on releasing the official game sometime in 2027. The developer has noted that AI Generated Content was used to create some textures that were reworked and adapted into the game. It was also used for translation purposes for the demo version.
