Publisher Justdan International has officially announced that their turn-based RPG Tianji: Shadow of the Ancients will be launching for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 in 2027. Directed by the creator of the Xuan-Yuan Sword series, the upcoming title blends classic role-playing mechanics with a highly dynamic combat system. Alongside the release window, an official announcement trailer was released, which showcased high-definition hand-drawn environments and traditional landscape paintings.
Set during the Tianbao era of the Tang Dynasty, the game gives players a chance to experience a narrative wrapped in historical myth. Early in the journey, players will take control of an amnesiac protagonist named Shangguan Shuo on a quest to rediscover his true identity. Awakening in a stronghold with only a strange mask and a guard token in his possession, the hero must explore a mysterious underground city and slowly uncover the massive conspiracy orchestrated by the enigmatic Xuanxin Order. The adventure requires explorers to travel across detailed maps featuring climbing, swimming, and environmental puzzles in every area.
During combat, players can utilize unique battle mechanics driven by combos. The most notable feature is a chain skill system that allows characters to exploit enemy weak points and execute seamless strikes without taking damage. Players are encouraged to string together pursuit attacks and block counters to maintain the flow of action. Outside of direct battle, users can build bonds with a cast of companions. These allies can cook meals, refine equipment, upgrade cores, and trade rare items to support the adventure. Through continuous exploration, players can also freely switch between day and night in towns to trigger hidden events and discover valuable secrets tied to specific times.
Tianji: Shadow of the Ancients will feature language support for English, Japanese, and Chinese. Tianji: Shadow of the Ancients is currently scheduled to release on PC and consoles in 2027.
