Publisher NIS America has officially announced that Astonishia Story will be launching on the PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC on February 11, 2027. Alongside the western release date, a brand new gameplay trailer was released, which showcased completely updated graphics, grid based combat mechanics, and a variety of mercenaries for players to recruit.
Set in a fantasy world, the game gives players a chance to experience a beloved cult classic role-playing game rebuilt for modern platforms. Early in the journey, players will take control of Lloyd von Reuental on a quest to recover a stolen relic and regain his honor. This epic tale explores complex themes of prejudice, manipulation, and sworn duty. The Elven Queen is set on claiming the devastating powers of an ancient god, and it will be up to the player to stop her. Much of the adventure requires explorers to carefully maneuver their units across the grid, fire off powerful abilities, and keep track of positioning to ensure success.
During combat, players can utilize the unique skill set of each character to adapt their party for every situation. The most notable addition is the plethora of optional mercenaries waiting to join the quest. Players are encouraged to talk to everyone they meet, as they never know who might be willing to stand by their side in battle. These recruitable characters create unique strategic experiences that let players build the ultimate team to save the world.
Astonishia Story first launched for the Nintendo Switch and PC on December 18, 2025, for audiences in South Korea. It serves as a high definition remake of the original 1994 released MS-DOS game. The localized game will support English text on consoles, and English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese text on PC.
Astonishia Story is currently scheduled to release on the PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on February 11, 2027.
