Square Enix has officially announced that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be launching on the PlayStation 5 on April 8, 2027. Alongside the release date, a brand new gameplay trailer was released, which showcased a massive open world, updated combat mechanics, and a variety of activities for players to experience.
Set in an expansive open world, the game gives players complete freedom to explore diverse biomes. Early in the journey, players will gain control of their iconic airship, the Highwind, which also functions as a base of operations that changes over time. Players can fly through the skies and then transition to exploring the ground. On land, travel is supported by a Chocobo companion named Pico. Pico serves as both a mount and a battle companion. As the party grows stronger, Pico will also grow, providing support like gliding through the air or dropping into the action. There is also a new grappling gun which allows for quick traversal across city rooftops.
During combat, players can now seamlessly dismount their Chocobo during fights to engage enemies directly. The most notable addition is the new Fits system, which allows characters to equip different roles, such as Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner. These Fits drastically alter a party member’s abilities and playstyle. For instance, Vincent can equip the Summoner Fit to perform synergized attacks alongside invoked entities, making his standard attacks flashier and much more lethal. Meanwhile, Cid can take on the Knight Fit, a defense focused role designed to draw enemy attention and protect his allies. Also confirmed are formidable foes known as Weapons.
Players will be able to explore new locations like Rocket Town and the warrior nation of Wutai. The city is full of activities, such as snapping photos of beloved local cats. Previously visited locations, like Gongaga, will become accessible as fast travel points. While traveling, players can switch between any party member at any time. When tackling odd jobs and quests, the choice of the active character will dynamically change the story and gameplay. These branching decisions create unique narrative experiences that explore characters backstories. The game will also feature returning faces, like Cissnei.

The developers have also added a fast forward option for cutscenes, allowing players to speed up the narrative if they choose. The minigame, Queen’s Blood is making a return. Red 13 will also be at the center of a brand new Queen’s Blood saga. He will face off against powerful opponents equipped with unique abilities that will completely change the board and test players strategic thinking.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is currently scheduled to release on the PlayStation 5 on April 8, 2027. The Final Fantasy VII Revelation Premium Edition will include the base game, 24-hour early access, starter bonus items, and a Story Expansion Pass featuring two upcoming story DLCs. Those who pre-order will receive the Mecha-Chocobo and Moogle Summon Materia.
