Square Enix took the stage to unveil a brand-new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the highly anticipated final chapter in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. The newly released footage gives fans an action-packed look at the escalating threats facing Cloud Strife and his party, specifically highlighting massive boss battles against planetary guardians and the apocalyptic presence of Meteor.
The trailer immediately establishes the dire stakes of this concluding title. A politically charged speech by Rufus addresses the citizens of the world, warning them of “the enormous meteor that looms over our heads” and the “towering monstrosities termed weapons like the one that made landfall outside Midgar.” Much of the presentation centers around the awakening of the WEAPONs, the planet’s ultimate defense mechanisms. The footage highlights an ideological divide regarding these colossal entities. While Vincent reflects that the planet rightfully sees humanity as a threat to its well-being, Cid sharply dismisses the guardians as mere “weapons of mass destruction.”
With gameplay, Revelation appears to scale up the action foundation built by Remake and Rebirth to accommodate these massive encounters, some of which include Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon, and Ultima Weapon. Dialogue about “taking down weapons, hunting materia” and being “way overdue for a day off” play over fast-paced, desperate skirmishes. The footage culminates in explosive, highly coordinated team attacks, and the team’s airship facing off against one of these Weapons.
Square Enix’s official press materials confirm that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will let players freely explore the entire planet via the Highwind airship, parachuting anywhere and using grappling hooks and Chocobo mounts, while the new FITS system equips characters like Cloud and Tifa in specialized outfits (Warrior, Black Mage, and others) that unlock classic Final Fantasy job-style abilities and greater power. The hybrid combat system is further expanded with additional playable characters. The party can divide to tackle simultaneous battles in any order with decisions that affect individual story threads, and owners of save data from Remake Intergrade or Rebirth unlock the Chocobo & Moogle and Phoenix Summon Materia respectively, with both prior titles offering Streamlined Progression options for newcomers.
Hamaguchi promised an “unforgettable experience in a world without boundaries” and made a major announcement regarding the game’s launch: the highly anticipated finale will release simultaneously across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC in Spring 2027.
