Amazon Luna, which was released in 2020 as a standalone gaming platform, similar to the already established video streaming service, has recently undergone a major rebranding. This began in late 2025, when Prime Gaming merged with Amazon Luna. Subsequently, Amazon Luna became available as part of the dropdown menu for both the Amazon Prime app and website. Earlier this year, Amazon Luna redirected its attention to built-in party games designed for casual players, officially closing its game store to third parties.

Earlier today, as part of their twice monthly content update, the service announced a predictable, but unexplained shift away from MMOs (Massive Multiplayer Online games). Previous Amazon Luna titles Throne and Liberty and Lost Ark will be taken over by other companies, whereas New World plans on being shut down by the end of next January.

Throne and Liberty is being returned to the game’s original developer: NC. The game’s new production studio is called FirstSpark Games. Everything, including the transfer of player data, is scheduled to be complete by the end of this year.

Similarly, Lost Ark is also being reclaimed by its original development studio: Smilegate. Smilegate is widely recognized for their work on tactical shooters and MMORPGs, making it perfect for Lost Ark. All data is scheduled to be finished moving by early 2027, though it is unclear when, exactly this move will happen, and Nwhat this means for current players.

New World, on the other hand, is not so lucky. Since the game has not been picked up by a studio, Amazon has decided to shut down its server. This decision was made for many reasons, including a decline in player numbers after updates slowed. Fans of the game could see this change coming though, since it became unavailable for new players in early January of 2026, and the storefront was not an option past July 20. New World fans are able to enjoy online playing until January 2027, which is when the servers will be shut down for good.
