This morning a new survival horror game has dropped their official announcement trailer. Voidwood it is a roguelite online co-op, where players are children trapped inside a cursed forest. They are being hunted by an enemy known as The Beast, an apex predator who tracks players down based off sound.
The game can be played solo or with up to 4 other players. The teams main goal is to solve the mystery of what happened to the children that came before them. However, the truth is hidden deep within the forest. The further they venture, the tougher survival becomes.
There is a day and night mechanic in the game, where players must scavenge for supplies during the day. They must work together to collect resources, fight masked enemies, and prepare for nightfall. Once darkness sets in the forest, the cursed forest summons The Beast. Players must be extra careful as talking to one another risks giving their location away and making noise at the wrong moment will bring their hunter closer.
Voidwood‘s official announcement trailer provides an ominous backstory to the forest, where children enter and never return. The story reveals a speculation that the kids are still trapped within the forest, having their faces stolen by the woods and their beings corrupted. The trailer reveals a variety of enemies that players may encounter. From lanky figures with masked faces to big brutes. It also teases images of The Beast with boney limbs and black fur.
The trailer also mentions a ritual that players must complete in order to break the cycle and escape the forests. The characters are shown collecting wood from glowing trees and opening a portal to escape.
Voidwood is the debut game of Santa Barbara Games, a small indie team that plans on releasing the game sometime in 2027. It can be wishlisted on Steam. The official website of the game also includes a link for playtesting, allowing prospective players to volunteer via Steam once playtesting is open.
