For many, Grounded 2 served as a worthy successor the original title, expanding on the ideas in the base game while not straying too far from what made it so special. Given the general fondness for the game coming through in reviews, it seemed only natural that the game would receive additional support in the form of updates. The latest and largest of these updates, Into the Abyss, looks to give Grounded 2 a new dimension to its tone and gameplay, as seen in the official trailer released today.

Originally announced in June on the game’s Steam page, Into the Abyss will add a massive new area to the game, at least from the perspective of the shrunken player. The pond being accessible now will let players navigate both above the water and beneath it. High up, the ominous trailer reveals leftover artifacts like shoes caught in webs high up in the trees and dripping caverns filled with spiders. In the water, players can be seen riding on the backs of prey to escape chasing fish and setting up small mines to cover their trail.

Later on, an underwater facility opens and deposits another shrunken figure into the deep waters below in a bulky suit. There, the group encounters the skull of a dead fish and another underwater predator with glowing red eyes, with the narration further leaning into the horror theming of the update. The end of the trailer encourages players to conquer their fears together, which takes on multiple meanings as in addition of playing with friends, players will also have access to the new Toe-biter companion to help navigate the deep waters of the pond.

In addition to the features shown off in the trailer regarding the pond, the team has also promised that additional content will be coming in the future to flesh out the main area of Brookhollow Park. Grounded 2 – Into the Abyss will be available tomorrow for the early access version of the game.
