Publisher Analgesic Productions and developer gingham games have announced that Danchi Days, a slice-of-life adventure game, will launch for PC via Steam on October 29, 2026 for $14.99, with a 10 percent launch discount. A demo covering its first chapter, running roughly 60 to 90 minutes, is available now.
Danchi Days follows 12-year-old Hoshino Kanaoka, who returns to her Japanese hometown after seven years abroad to live with her grandmother, a former kindergarten principal now living with dementia. When an old flyer for a canceled summer festival turns up, the memory of the event she used to organize brings her grandmother a rare moment of joy. Seeing this, Hoshino decides to bring the festival back to life. Pulling that off means digging into the neighborhood’s past. Hoshino has to uncover what caused the area to decline while she was away, why the festival was shut down in the first place, and who exactly is trying to stop its return. Set in 2000s Japan, the game takes heavy inspiration from the handheld titles of that era. The development team describes the overall tone as comedic yet bittersweet. It is a story where the darker realities of living in a danchi, a traditional mass housing complex, sit right alongside a genuine sense of warmth.
Reviving the festival requires winning over the diverse residents of the danchi. Hoshino teams up with Moro-Q, an amnesiac kappa, to track down the five necessary offerings. Along the way, players can uncover the town’s darker secrets by browsing an in-game internet. The gameplay also features “Sense Games,” a collection of quirky minigames focused on mundane, everyday actions that developer Melos Han-Tani adapted from his earlier work. A major draw for the game is the development team’s strong track record. The studio behind it, gingham games, is a trio made up of sandy powder on script and design, mogumu on art, and Melos Han-Tani handling programming, music, and translation. Han-Tani brings solid experience from co-creating titles like the Anodyne series.
