With the recent release of Backrooms (2026) in theaters, liminal space horror has become an even larger concept than it was before. What was once popular amongst the horror fans of the internet has now branched out to a new audience, creating a new group of people with an appetite for more.

Rather than sitting down and watching a video or a movie of unsuspecting characters getting into a terrifying situation, you can place yourself in one with Cloudrooms.

You wake up in a strange building suspended in the air; it looks dreamy and inviting with the fluffy white clouds surrounding it. However, as you walk out of a metal door, you find the truth to this building is much the opposite of its appearance. There is a corridor with another door at the end of it, between it is empty, leaving you with an eerie feeling. Walking through the door in front of you leads to another corridor with a door, after that another, and after that another. You’re stuck in a loop.

Quickly, the emptiness changes, but the eeriness stays the same.

You weren’t just put in this building to aimlessly walk an unending loop, you have a job to do. As you walk down each corridor, you have to keep your eyes out for suspicious changes in the environment and identify them correctly. These changes are called anomalies, some are obvious and others need a closer look to notice.

What do these anomalies look like? They can be as simple as a woman with her back turned toward you, upon crossing her and looking at her face to see she has a few too many eyes. Or, it can be as dangerous as a large tentacle destroying a part of the corridor you have yet to cross.

When you find an anomaly, you have to activate the alarm located by the door and exit into the next area. Get it right and progress. Get it wrong, and the loop restarts.
