CALX is a unique game where players “Flow across the WARP-corrupted planet Syro,” according to Steam. The game has players choose between movement, exploration and combat as the players “Find out what the WARP did to the Quoths civilization” which is further discussed in the game’s Steam About Section. To learn more about the game check out its Steam description and updates, CALX’s new demo and True Colors’ Bluesky for a greater viewpoint.
CALX’s Gameplay trailer explores Planet Syro, and some of the game’s storyline. It starts with a view of the planet, showing decomposed giants, tall buildings and the remnants of civilization. A green figure approaches some kind of altar in a dark cavern, it punches a part of the altar causing it to light up in blue and afterwards a black creature with a red scarf that’s named Seeker is seen lying on the ground.
Seeker gets to work, fighting against monstrous creatures until their health bars decrease and they’re exterminated. It then runs through parts of a building, being able to jump through the air to get to a turning piece of pathway. Landscape wise, there are many ledges and things for Seeker to move on, and it seems that the creature can send out a blue tracking sonar that reveals information on particular statues or items, however the reveal can be encrypted. Seeker can figure out tasks, go on ancient escalators, run and jump etc. The character seems to have control of a gem-like structure, which is used in multiple ways such as tossing signs and opening doorways.
Syro is vast and the trailer shows scenic waterfalls, and unique greenery. Seeker runs through long grass until it meets the green figure that started it all. It tells Seeker “This desert is sinking, Seeker, and you must be careful not to sink with it.” Following these ominous words, some of the world’s rock structures start glowing, as Seeker continues exploring the world, it can click on an item and non encrypted information comes up. It also fights against rock weapons which it blows up. When Seeker returns back to the civilization, some parts are now corrupted with masses that shine the same pink as the desert rocks.
The Seeker continues exploring, finding more objects and meeting another creature with a pink cape, where there’s the opportunity to get “Artifacts,” “Chat” or “Shop.” The trailer then teases an “Upgrade” to the “AFX Norma” which players will get to figure out in the game. More of Syro’s architecture is unveiled as Seeker runs through multiple locations and faces off against the pink rot and other creatures against it.
CALX is developed by True Colors and published by Dear Villagers, it will come to PC June 4th, and will come to console in the future according to the Trailer. The Gameplay Trailer also notes that the game will be available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Epic Games Store, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.
