Let’s get this straight from the top: Overwatch and Street Fighter 5 have nothing in common. Overwatch is a first-person shooter, whose many characters come with their own personal weapons they use in the game. Street Fighter 5 is a fighting game where you choose a character and use their fighting styles and moves to take down your opponent, often times another player as opposed to an AI. However, a modder on YouTube known as TheJamk has come up with a way to bring an Overwatch character over to the world of Street Fighter 5. That character is Sombra, one of the newer characters added to the game. But there is a catch.
Sombra isn’t acting as Sombra. She’s acting as Street Fighter 5‘s Laura, using Laura’s fighting style and moves as opposed to the weapons Sombra wields in Overwatch. The video below shows Sombra acting as Laura.
The video starts out in the player select screen. Both players are playing as Laura, but instead of Laura showing up on both sides of the screen, it’s Sombra. Sombra is seen using Laura’s battling style, including Laura’s signature knock out move. The description of the video says:
Well, I think it was obvious this Mod. I’m not exactly proud of the animation in the clothes, but I think it’s not that bad. The colors are not exactly the same as the original because I wanted the alternative colors to work. And it is somewhat difficult since the character has degraded colors.Anyway I hope you like it.
This isn’t the first time that a modder did something similar. Previous users have modded characters such as Tracer, Mei, Roadhog, Reinhardt and D.Va
Capcom has previously stated that they will support Street Fighter 5 until 2020 and Blizzard is currently working on an unannounced first-person project and may soon announce a Christmas-themed event for Overwatch.
