Behaviour Interactive, the developer behind the hit horror game Dead by Daylight, has officially confirmed with Game Developer that an unknown number of employees have been laid off. The reasoning behind the layoffs is due to mobile and casual external projects declining.
A representative of the behavior explained the rationale for the layoffs. “A portion of Behaviour Interactive’s business has traditionally focused on external development partnerships. In recent months, demand for mobile and casual external development projects has declined. ”
“As we conclude our remaining engagements and do not foresee comparable opportunities in the near term, we have made the decision to part ways with some colleagues. Those decisions are never easy, and we are grateful for the contributions of the affected employees, who have helped shape Behaviour and support our partners over the years.”
It’s unfortunate that the news of these layoffs comes only a month after the news of Behaviour Interactive acquiring 7 Days to Die developers The Fun Pimps for an unknown amount. It’s also not the first time Behaviour suffered losses, as back in 2024, they closed Midwinter Entertainment, a subsidiary behind a Dead by Daylight spin-off called Project T. And now with these layoffs, it doesn’t look good on Behaviour’s part, but it’s, unfortunately, the nature of the beast. We can only wait and see if these are the only layoffs they have this year.
Behaviour Interactive is the largest independent developer located in Canada, with roughly 1,200 employees across the country as of 2026. Its mainstream game is Dead by Daylight, released back in June 2016 and still going strong ten years later. And with the acquisition of The Fun Pimps, they are striving to build a high-quality horror portfolio. So, let’s hope they can retain their current employees, continue creating great horror games, and avoid losses in the current gaming sphere.
