If you’ve kept up with Wizards of the Coast’s flagship trading card game, Magic: The Gathering, you’re probably painfully aware of the amount of crossovers the game has had in the past few years, with only more to come, such as the topic of today’s talk: The Deadpool crossover Secret Lair, “I Fixed It (You’re Welcome)”. These pics are courtesy of Instagram user @TaaliaVess.

You’ve got some of the usual suspect reprints here: Sol Ring, Lightning Bolt, Lightning Greaves, the works for any Commander player that wants to give their EDH deck some sparkly Deadpool humor. There have been some eyes on the last card in the above line-up, the Deadpool edited basic Mountain. Some people were assuming that this was actually a clever way to reprint Volcanic Island, a Magic card that is infamously on the Reserved List (the long and short of it is, Reserved List cards can’t be reprinted unless Wizards wants to deal with a big hullabaloo in the community and potentially in the courtroom). This is a big joke, likely intentional by Wizards to lean into the Deadpool theme, but there is a 99.99% chance that card is just a basic Mountain, don’t go investing in Deadpool Secret Lairs hoping to score big on the secondary market.
For me, the more interesting part about this Secret Lair is Deadpool himself. While Secret Lair arts are only occasionally brought into online clients like Magic: The Gathering Online and Magic: The Gathering Arena, Deadpool’s presence actually causes Marvel to draw a line in the sand when it comes to online clients; previous Universes Beyond sets like Spider-Man could not appear in either of Magic’s aforementioned online formats because Marvel themselves have an online trading card game (Marvel Snap) and they don’t want to create a schism in their playerbase online.
Which means these Secret Lair cards will not be appearing for use online, yet the collab means that Wizards is more than happy to continue to work with Marvel, and basically create online proxies on the fly like they did with Spider-Man when actual Universes Beyond sets come to Magic, and we’re due for another Marvel set with Marvel: Super Heroes in June this year.
But, the state of Magic and it’s wacky crossovers is a story for another time. For now, look forward to the Deadpool Secret Lair, scheduled to release April 1st, 2026!
