We’ve got some news from Gameplay Group International, the developers of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, and this time it’s a trailer for the iconic earthbender, Toph Beifong.
Don’t let the earth themed moveset fool you, Toph is hardly solid like a rock in gameplay. Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is shaping up to be surprisingly fast paced and Toph’s moveset is no exception, with a fun parry and several options to actually manipulate screen space such as a summonable wall, stone spikes to anti-air, and giant pillars to stand on.
With a gimmick reminiscent of Aganos from Killer Instinct, Toph’s main function gameplay-wise seems to be summoning giant walls of stone to create a pseudo corner anywhere on screen. Corner situations in most fighting games are messed up, but in faster paced games like Avatar is shaping up to be this stone wall is probably going to make for some really messed up mixups. On top of that, Toph can summon a pillar of stone to stand on, though the jury’s out on whether or not this will function as something resembling a super jump, or if it’s just a combo function.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game really surprised people during the last beta. The expectations were low but the gameplay came across surprisingly well with most of the players who gained access, and now we have some genuine excitement to see what comes next for this game. Toph looks like an exciting character with unique strengths, something that is actually pretty rare in modern fighting games, so hopefully this is a sign of good things to come!
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is set to release in the summer of 2026 for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, and can be wishlisted right now on Steam.
