One of the games that was greatly anticipated last year, Directive 8020, has finally received a release date for 2026. The game was pushed back following the release date presented at Summer Games Fest, leaving many to wonder when they would get the chance to get their hands on the game. Published by Supermassive Games, the title is a new take on the sci-fi horror genre, leaning into the inherent paranoia that springs up in people’s minds when faced with danger and uncertainty.
The new trailer for the game, titled “Comply”, announced the availability of its preorders with a series of tense gameplay moments that tie into the heart of the game. In the very first of these, the player is given the choice between saving a fellow crewmember or abandoning him. Once the decision to leave him is made, the camera focuses on his panicked reaction, adding grave stakes to every choice made. It follows up by asking similar questions, giving players the chance to take riskier options like fighting and exploring or safer, less exciting alternatives like hiding and retreating. At the forefront throughout the entire thing is the horrific monsters and imagery one would expect from this style of game.
More information on the game is available on the Dark Pictures website since the trailer as well. Players will decide the fate of the Casseopeia crew while evading the alien pursuers that seek to end their life. The aliens are also capable of perfectly mimicking others, forcing each crew member to reevaluate their trust and loyalty. The game also features a multiplayer mode, allowing players to work together to survive the alien threat.
Despite the delay, hype for Directive 8020 has only grown since last year, with the trailer garnering a serious positive reaction. Players will have the chance to experience the game on May 12th on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
