Fans of the historic Total War games can rejoice: Total War: Medieval III has been confirmed as an upcoming game release. On December 4th, during the Total War-25th Anniversary Showcase, Creative Assembly debuted a teaser trailer for Medieval III and announced that they were in the stages of early pre-production for the game. The release of the announcement comes as a welcomed surprise for fans as the earlier games of the series, Medieval: Total War and Medieval II: Total War, debuted to players back in 2002 and 2006 respectively. As the game is in its beginning stages of inception, Creative Assembly expressed their big ambitions for the newest game to live up to its predecessors. During the showcase, Pawel Wojs, the game director for Total War: Medieval III, expressed that the team wants to draw inspiration on the earlier games to create a game that leaves players with an unforgettable experience. Woj’s also took to the internet to share in his excitement for the game on a recent blog post on the official Total War website: “This is a series we know means a lot to many of you, and having personally worked on MEDIEVAL II almost 20 years ago, it’s beyond my wildest dreams that I get to lead the team bringing its sequel to life.”
The Total War franchise is a turn-based strategy and real-time tactic game franchise that highlights specific historical periods in each game, with the Medieval games being set, well, in the medieval times. While Medieval III is currently being worked on, fans can speculate on the specific time-period based off the trailer that Creative Assembly released in tandem with their announcement. Fans have a unique view to the pre-production of the game as Creative Assembly will allow glimpses into the game production in real-time as expressed in Woj’s blog post: “We have never talked about one of our games this early on in pre-development before, so it is a very exciting prospect for us, but of course as with anything new, we will have to expect bumps and bruises along the way, so please bear with us whilst we find our rhythm.”
