The PlayStation 5 exclusive standalone sequel to Ghost of Tsushima has accumulated over 3.3 million sales in its first month since release. Ghost of Yotei is another action-adventure game by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Ghost of Yotei’s co-op multiplayer mode, Ghost of Yotei: Legends will see its release in 2026 as a free update for all players who own the base game.

Ghost of Yotei is set in 1603 Ezo, Japan, placing it 329 years after Ghost of Tsushima. It follows Atsu (Erika Ishii / Fairouz Ai) as she seeks to avenge her dead family by hunting down the “Yotei Six,” a group of individuals under the leadership of Lord Saito (Feodor Chin / Miou Tanaka). Players are given freedom to engage with the Yotei Six in whatever order they prefer, save for the Snake being a mandatory first boss battle, and Lord Saito being the final boss.

The degree of this accomplishment when compared with its predecessor is relative, given the circumstances of Ghost of Tsushima’s release. Its initial release in July 2020 as a PlayStation 4 exclusive saw sales of 2.4 million units in the first three days and 5 million in just under four months. Following its release on PC and PlayStation 5, Ghost of Tsushima now boasts a cumulative sale count of over 13 million copies. 

Ghost of Yotei’s four month cycle will overlap with the upcoming holiday season, which often sees a bolstering of sales as gifts are bought and gift cards are used. The upcoming release of the co-op multiplayer mode may also see an increase in sales as friends seek games to play together and settle on Ghost of Yotei. So, regardless of its comparatively slower start, Ghost of Yotei’s overall sales are comparative to those of its predecessor.
