Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws recently came to Nintendo Switch 2 for a second chance after its initial underperformance. Initially released in August of 2024, the game received an underwhelming amount of attention for a Star Wars game. This reflected in its sales performance, proving to be a disappointment for Ubisoft. The new release may be the game’s chance to redeem itself.

In the time before the game’s release, there was much concern regarding its overall quality, with many writing off the game entirely. Following the game’s launch, these fears proved to only be half-true, with reviews finding the game relatively unremarkable compared both other Star Wars and Ubisoft games, but not so much as to be worth getting worried over. The combat both on the ground and in space had been done better before, as had the stealth mechanics. It seemed as if the game was destined to be released and forgotten in favor of other projects. All of this led some fans to speculate why an effort was made to bring the game to the Switch 2 so shortly after the console’s launch.

For better or worse, Star Wars Outlaws has now come to the Switch 2, opening the game up to both owners of the console and others who were reminded of the game by the release. Upon hearing the news, fans were once again concerned, this time with the potential performance issues the game might have on the Switch 2. Surprisingly, many of these fears were addressed in the release trailer for the Switch 2 version of the game, along with some early reviews. The power of Nintendo’s latest console goes on display as it shows it is able to keep up with the previous releases of the game. Despite this, other early reviews refute this idea, creating confusion regarding the game’s quality which seems to be one of its defining features at this point.
