With Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater on the horizon, Konami has amped up their promotion for the game’s release. In part 3 of an interview series Konami has been posting on their Youtube channel speaking on the legacy of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, they spoke about the now 20 year long mystery of who voiced the femme fatale of the game Eva.
The voices of Snake (David Hayter) and the Boss (Lori Alan) sat alongside none other than Jodi Benson who is most well known for her role as Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Benson finally came forward, claiming role as Eva which was performed under the pseudonym, Suzetta Miñet.
Although she started career on broadway, Benson found herself landing jobs, mainly in the family genre of entertainment, after landing The Little Mermaid’s leading role in 1989. This is what led her to change her name for the more sexualized Eva. Benson would say:
The various projects that I am affiliated with in my career are sort of family-based, children-based, things like that. It was actually Kris Zimmerman Salter, our director, that kind of sat down with me and she’s like, ‘Maybe we need to change your name.’
[Kris] asked me, ‘What was your dog’s name growing up?’ and I said, ‘Suzette Monet.’ So she’s like, ‘You know what? Let’s build on that. How about Suzetta? How about instead of Monet, like the artist, we’ll do Minet?’ and I was like, ‘Sounds like a deal.’
Benson’s role wasn’t ever officially released to the public, but fans have had their suspicions for years. She recalled:
Seven years ago, at various conventions where we meet and greet with wonderful fans, somebody slipped one of these wonderful games to my table. I said, ‘Why are you bringing me that?’ and he says ‘Because you’re in it’ and I said… ‘Do you know? Do you know my deep, dark secret?’ and he said, ‘Yes, I do know!’ and I said, ‘Shh…. keep it quiet.’
There is no definitive date for the release of Snake Eater, but Konami have been quoted saying the game will be out by the end of 2024.
