Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo 4 released in 2023, being the fourth installment of the beloved series, it had a lot of expectations to live up to. Now, at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase it has another chance to win over the Diablo faithful with its newly announced expansion, Vessel of Hatred, releasing on October 8th, 2024.
Though the trailer doesn’t reveal any new gameplay or classes, it does reveal a few new interesting things about the story so far. The main character of this trailer, a character named Neyrelle who players are familiar with from the base game, is holding on to a Soulstone with Mephisto trapped inside. Said Soulstone is tormenting her with extremely gnarly visions of her arms splitting open and her nerve endings being ripped out. Very sinister, but very fitting for Diablo.
Though visions aren’t where the torments end, as Neyrelle opens her eyes the driver of her boat is shown impaled and disemboweled. Also pretty gnarly, but fitting for Diablo’s Satanic tone.
Overall, there’s not much to talk about, but the narrative consequences of Neyrelle’s decisions in the main game are an interesting hook not to mention Vessel of Hatred is a true blue expansion, meaning another class, more equipment, quests, and hours and hours of the stuff more than enough for any Diablo player to maybe try Diablo 4 out again.
As stated, Vessel of Hatred is going to have its full release on October 8th, 2024 with prereleases available now on the Diablo 4 website here.
