Assassin’s Creed has some exciting things cooked up for Ubisoft Forward this year. Insider Gaming guarantees that Assassin’s Creed Red will have its official gameplay reveal at the event this year. Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red, or just Assassin’s Creed Red for short, will be the series’ next mainline game, after 2023’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and also the first to be featured on Assassin’s Creed Infinity. Assassin’s Creed Infinity is less a game and more a service. It is designed so that future games become easier to upload and reach audiences, having one place to live and an easy access point.
In preparing for Infinity, the series has made a switch to ‘Anvil Pipeline’ a new game engine that has led to the game updating all aspects from animation to weather, everything needed to make the jump. This is part of why there hasn’t been much noise about the upcoming Codename Red. Luckily that drought seems to be ending soon.
Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red will take place in Feudal Japan, one of the locations Alex Hutchinson – creative director of Assassin’s Creed III – said would be hard to set an Assassin’s Creed game in. To be fair the other two locations that he mentioned were Ancient Egypt and World War II. Ancient Egypt was the main setting of Assassin’s Creed Origins. It currently has an 81 on Metacritic for reference. World War II has only ever appeared as an Easter egg in Assassin’s Creed Unity. Either way, it seems that Hutchinson’s words have not been the be all and end all. Well players interested in Codename Red will get the chance to play as possibly a shinobi or a samurai, and the game will return to a past and present split narrative. More information will come during Ubisoft Forward on June 10th.
