Classic Zelda fans have a nice surprise waiting for them on Nintendo Switch Online today. The company has added some limited icon options for players based on characters from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past which is one of the series most classic and beloved titles. These icons – which include portraits of Link, Zelda, and Ganon – can all be claimed for ten platinum points a piece. However, to access them, players first have to boot up A Link to the Past at least one time. If players want to add these icons to their collections or just indulge in some classic gaming nostalgia, they must be sure to act quickly; these icons are only available till June 3rd.
While the icons are blocked by players needing to open up A Link to the Past, they are not required to play it. Whether they should play it or not is entirely up to them. A Link to the Past is a 1991, or ‘92 for North American players, action-adventure game that was and is still met with wide critical success. The game still possesses a 95 on Metacritic and is a certified must-play.
The game features Link’s quest to rescue Hyrule from the series staple villain Ganon and Ganon’s one-time accomplice Agahnim. Link must journey to rescue the descendants of the Seven Sages from the Dark World, a parallel world where Ganon rules and the Sages are trapped.
As one of the most famous Zelda games, and 2D games of all time, for those who have Nintendo Switch Online, now might be the time to enjoy it. For fans looking for an update take on the classic, 2013’s The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds offers a stand-alone sequel with an updated take on a similar world and circumstances.
Overall, Nintendo fans have a lot to look forward to with the information coming out about the upcoming Switch 2. For Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, now’s the time to go earn some new icons and face down Ganon again.
