When the clock strikes midnight on Thursday, prepare to soil your plants. The sequel to the massive Plants vs. Zombies is coming.
According to its Facebook page, all signs are pointing to the midnight release of Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time this evening (well, technically tomorrow morning). The game will be free, with the option of in-app purchases.
This installment sees Crazy Dave eating a taco and, realizing he wants another taco, makes the next logical step and hops aboard his time machine. Things don’t quite unfold the way they are supposed to, of course, and we see the events of the game happen throughout time. Not sure if Dave ever gets that taco.
The widely-anticipated sequel has hit roadblocks and criticism during development, with constant delays and rumors of game mode swaps behind the scenes at PopCap. Some worried about EA’s involvement in the title – they recently acquired PopCap – but it looks like those worries will be set aside tonight upon release. It will be for iOS only and feature Cross-device (iCloud) saving.
The game has done well critically, with IGN awarding it with an 8.7, calling it “polished, addictive and content-rich.” The game has already aggregated a score of 89 on Metacritic.
And with that, it looks like a well-received, completely free game hits your phone tonight. It’s About Time you go grab it. And then, when you do, make the next logical step and go back in time to download it again. Just to be sure.
