As we approach the release of Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered, the excitement is kicking in and we’re seeing more and more news to garner hype. The remaster as we know has been a bit of a controversial topic with people calling out Naughty Dog for not having anything new in their catalog and purely relying on remasters. Controversy aside The Last Of Us Part 2 went to be a critical success, even winning that year’s Game of the Year award at the game awards. Yesterday Naughty Dog announced that a documentary about the making of The Last Of Us Part 2 will be released sometime after the release of the remaster. This is going to be very insightful for anyone that wants to maybe get into the gaming industry and video game production.
Accompanying the announcement came a trailer showcasing lots of footage. The documentary apparently began filming in 2016 but was later abandoned close to the full release of the game due to the covid-19 outbreak. Confusing that the project was wholly ditched so close to release but covid brought a lot of weirdness into the world. In the short trailer there’s much creative discussion showcased including bold decisions and how the team tackled them, including the still controversial killing off of series protagonist Joel.
One very surprising aspect that the documentary will include was the crunch that happened at Naughty Dog during the development, its very admirable for Naughty Dog to be so open about the brutal process of creating videogames and owning up to the fact that they did make the mistake of making almost all their employees playing excruciating hours. The leaks that led to a lot of major outrage will also be focused on as we finally get to here more of the feeling inside the studio as leaks began running rampant prior to release.
Grounded 2: The Making Of The Last Of Us Part 2 releases sometime after the release of The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered on January 19th.
