Larian Studios recently published a tweet addressing the issues with the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3. The game was released this past December for XBOX after the Game Awards where it won Game of the Year. The issues have been ongoing, as a tweet as far back as December 12th was made by XBOX Support regarding an issue with saving. Xbox made a fix for this a few days after, according to a tweet, but apparently the saving issues have continued. This issue is not on Larian Studio’s part, but rather Xbox firmware. With the holiday season, the firmware update continues to be delayed. While the game believes that the player’s files have been saved, the firmware has not uploaded it to the disk. The current work around that Larian Studio is recommending players use the cloud saving feature to save their files to cloud.
We’re aware that there is a save issue on Xbox that continues to linger throughout the holidays. It occurs when exiting the game after saving. The game thinks the save was successful but due to a firmware issue, the save file is not fully committed to disk yet.
Microsoft is…

The forums for Baldur’s Gate 3 have an entire thread dedicated to this issue. Spanning over three pages, most of the players have complained about this issue more recently. According to this thread, the firmware pushed through by Xbox did not resolve this issue. Many are saying that they have their systems up to date. Countless players, frustrated with their saves disappearing, have hours upon hours lost because of this issue. People are having to restart their entire campaigns with new characters. Several players within this thread have stated that they have requested a refund. The frustration within this thread is felt through the numerous messages left.
Xbox isn’t the only console having issues with Baldur’s Gate 3. PlayStation 5 players have had difficulty doing multi-player with multiple crashes reported. TreeOG, a PS5 player, expressed their concern on Larian Studios Forum stating that “Every time I attempt to continue my splitscreen co-op game or add in the second player, the game freezes and crashes.” This post made back on December 7th. This does not seem to be resolved yet as players keep commenting stating that they also have this issue. There has been no public word from Larian Studios that they are working a way to resolve this issue. Others in the forum are saying that with every patch that gets pushed out, the issues get worse. It is not clear if this is an issue for everyone. The game actually won an award by PlayStation’s blog for best multi-player experience.
One look at the forums overall makes it clear that the console version of the game is having the most bugs and issues. The Larian Studios developers have a lot to work out with the console developers. With Xbox being the main focus for the developers, it isn’t clear when a PlayStation 5 fix will occur. The biggest issue seen on the forums is the game crashing. It’s not just Xbox that has been experiencing it. Whether this is player error or an actual bug is unclear. What is clear is that Baldur’s Gate 3 has a long road ahead on consoles.
