For fans of Star Wars: Republic Commando, the Lead Developer of the game Brett Douville shared some details about the game’s cancelled sequel. For those unfamiliar, Republic Commando was the story of Delta Squad, a group of four Clone Troopers fighting in the Clone Wars between Episodes 2 and 3. At the end of the game, the Squad has to leave behind one of their members, Sev, to suffer an uncertain fate. Thanks to Brett Douville, fans can get at least some idea of what would have happened to Sev and the rest of Delta Squad in the cancelled sequel.
According to Douville, there were two possibilities for how the sequel’s story would go. One idea from Tim Longo would have Sev start the Rebellion Army, finding new recruits and re-programming his other members of Delta Squad to fight against the emperor. The other idea by lead level designer Kevin Schmitt would take place during the events of Revenge of the Sith and have the Delta Squad carry out Order 66 and hunt for Jedi. In either idea, it seems that Sev survived the cliffhanger ending of Republic Commando. The idea’s for Sev’s character shows the positive impression that Republic Commando left with fans.
Douville also revealed some details about the game’s cancellation. Douville stated that there wasn’t even a chance to pitch the two story ideas as a result of “the company rebooting itself. Very few people involved with Republic Commando ended up staying on as LucasArts attempted to find it’s way forward.” I think it’s safe to say that LucasFilms being bought by Disney caused the cancellation. Many other Star Wars Games that were supposed to be released were also cancelled due to Disney’s acquisition of the license, including Star Wars Outpost, Star Wars: First Assault, Star Wars 1313, and the original Star Wars: Battlefront 3.
